Before Moving Out Cleaning Checklist

The complete before-moving-out cleaning checklist: every room, appliance, and hidden spot to clean so you get your full security deposit back. Includes landlord-ready inspection checklist.

Updated: April 2026 · 7 min read

Most tenants lose deposit money not because of damage — but because they left the place dirty. Grease behind the stove, dust in the bedroom closets, soap scum in the shower — these are the things that push landlords toward deductions, even when rent was always paid on time.

The move-out cleaning checklist below is what professional move-out cleaners use. Work through it room by room. If you're running short on time, hire a pro for the parts you can't finish — it almost always pays for itself in deposit money saved.

Average security deposit: 1 month's rent

A professional move-out clean costs far less than losing your deposit. Book now — same-week availability in Hamilton County.

Frequently Asked Questions

When should I schedule the move-out clean?

Book it for 1–3 days before you turn in the keys. This gives you time for any touch-ups and ensures the home is spotless at the final walk-through.

Should I be there during the cleaning?

You don't need to be present, but it's helpful to be available by phone in case the cleaner has questions or finds something unexpected.

What's included in a move-out clean vs. a standard deep clean?

Move-out cleans are specifically designed for the landlord walk-through: inside all cabinets and drawers, behind all appliances, baseboards, vents, and often include garage sweeping. Standard deep cleans may skip some of these areas.

What if my landlord uses a different inspection checklist?

Let us know when you book and we'll accommodate any specific requirements. We've worked with most major property management companies in Hamilton County.

What if something gets damaged during the clean?

We're fully insured. Document any pre-existing damage with photos before we arrive. Our team is background-checked and trained to be careful, but we stand behind our work.
