Preparing for Baby

Before Baby Cleaning Checklist

The complete before baby cleaning checklist: nursery, kitchen, bathrooms, and hidden areas most parents forget. Plus when to hire a cleaning service for your Hamilton County home.

Updated: April 2026 · 8 min read

There's a reason grandparents say 'sleep when the baby sleeps.' It's because the first months are a blur of feeding, soothing, and surviving. Getting your home truly clean — not just 'tidied up' — before baby arrives means one less thing competing for your attention when you're already running on fumes.

Most checklists stop at the nursery. This one goes further: into the kitchen vents, the garage, the inside of the dryer, and every baseboard your future crawler will touch. Print it, bookmark it, or hand it to a cleaning service — but whatever you do, don't skip the 'Often Forgotten' section.

Too overwhelmed to tackle this yourself?

Indy Cleaners handles the deep clean so you can focus on the nursery. Same-week availability in Hamilton County.

Frequently Asked Questions

When should I schedule a deep clean before baby arrives?

Aim for 2–3 weeks before your due date. This gives the clean time to settle and any fumes from cleaning products to fully dissipate before baby comes home.

How long does a full deep clean take?

For a typical 3-bedroom home, plan for 4–6 hours of cleaning. Our team can usually complete a before-baby deep clean in one visit.

What's the difference between a deep clean and a standard clean?

A standard clean covers surfaces — counters, floors, bathrooms. A deep clean goes further: inside appliances, baseboards, vents, behind furniture, and inside cabinets. Before baby arrives, you want deep.

Can you clean with non-toxic, baby-safe products?

Yes. Let us know when booking and we'll use baby-safe, fragrance-free products throughout your home, especially in the nursery.

Do you offer one-time cleans or only recurring service?

One-time deep cleans are available throughout Hamilton County. We also offer weekly, biweekly, and monthly maintenance if you want ongoing help after baby arrives.
